That is a 20" rim on that Kia Optima Convertible concept, and somehow it looks too small. I don’t know how Kia managed to do that, but kudos? There were a number of stupid things I saw there. Honorable mentions definitely include the Stormtrooper Fiat 500 and the couple inexplicably putting their baby on the hood of an Alfa Guilia for a picture.

I’m surprised they went for it, but CIQ is really letting me push their envelope. I pitched to them the idea of doing an article about the dumbest things from the show, and they actually went for it. This is probably my favorite article I’ve written for them, so go check it out over at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I think it’s worth it.

I refuse to believe that’s a 20" rim.

I distinctly remember hating that car for its wheels. Chrome looked so bad with that paint color and the wheel design was awful.

Me too. This car looks like it hit the buffet a bit too many times.

I once chatted with one Finnish vehicle designer. He said that if wheels look too small for the vehicle there’s something fundamental wrong with the design.

Shout out to the little kid who went under the railing and went running through the large exotic display (Philly Auto Show)

high beltlines strike again. The Optima is 191 inches long and a 20" looks small on it....

Here’s another 190-ish inch-long car...

1997(?) 750iL

on 16" wheels.

Kinja'd!!!

High beltlines. They suck.

Gotta love 20" rims and small brake calipers and rotors.

Yeah! Isn’t it comically small? You should check out the rest of the article, because that’s just scratching the surface.

Looks like I could be a Porsche Product Specialist - even I know that the Turbo was never naturally aspirated.

Still, despite the base Carrera being a turbo engine as well, I still love those vertical grille slats on the new models - love that retro touch on the modern bodies, kind of like when they made that 911 Sport Classic (which may be the perfect 911).

Also, that Optima looks like it'll fold in half when driven over the slightest of road undulations. Still, it'd be cool to share a convertible experience with friends if you're just going for a gentle cruise.

Their problem would easily be helped with a more pronounced arch over the wheel opening. But there is an awful lot of blank space between the wheel and anything else. I don’t think it looks that bad from the front, but they must not have put too much thought into it.

Haha, I was 6'0" in my prime but the years way heavy on my shoulders. Also, after breaking my back I lost a good half and inch. I still say, “Six feet” when asked.

I think it’s a good idea to at least have the option - the way I see it, Singer is providing the approach from the other direction, which is modernizing classics. Porsche can’t control the classic market directly, but at least this provides the retro touch at a base Carrera price (does anyone ever buy a base, no-options Carrera?) without needing to go into the half-million dollar territory for a Singer.

The only other thing I'd want is the PORSCHE letter delete option (which I haven't seen on the configurator) with only the 911 badge on the back, regardless of the trim. I see there is an option to have the lettering painted in body colour so it blends in, but that's another $400+ dollars (!).
